Avanta Marathon Man a Runaway Success for Charity
Serviced office company Avanta is proud to have its very own marathon man among its ranks. Mark Watkins, a systems analyst at the company’s Hammersmith-based headquarters, has raised almost £2,000 for the charity Whizz Kidz, a charity which provides customised mobility for disabled children, having run the Paris Marathon.
Mark completed the 26.2 mile course around the streets of Paris in an impressive time of 3 hours and 57 minutes. Long distance running must be in the Watkins family blood, as 2 of his brothers have recently completed Marathons in New York and London.
In preparation for his first ever marathon, Mark committed himself to a rigorous training regime which included regular visits to the gym and gradually increasing the length of long distance runs around central London. Sponsorship money was generated through contributions from friends, family and work colleagues, with Avanta making a generous donation to the grand total.
Commenting on his achievement, Mark said: “It was one of the biggest challenges of my life, a gruelling and exhausting experience, but an unforgettable feeling when I crossed the finish line. I was fortunate to receive amazing support from my friends, family and work colleagues, and it was their encouragement and generosity which drove me on over the final few miles”.
